The federal government has recently delayed the expansion of eligibility for Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD). Next month, eligibility was set to expland to include those with a sole underlying medical condition of mental illness. This will instead be made available by March 2024.
But should current eligibility be reviewed? Recent reports in the news have highlighted cases where some are seeking MAiD as a result of experiencing poverty, unable to access housing or are experiencing either — worsened by barriers as a result of living with a disability.
